Very good, very expensive. If you have someone else's credit card, this place has elevated service beyond your high end bistro, it's close to fine dining. The dishes are sold, beautifully presented. We had the fish (filleted for the guest perfectly) the chicken (a little salty) and pasta, all excellent. Wine list is epic, some good reasonable bottles, I always check via Vivino app. This place is a treat, the dining area in the rear is bigger and nicer than you would imagine so walk in.
I've eaten at several St. Ambroeus in the last 2 weeks including the original in Milano; the West Village, Lafayette St., and Brookfield-WTC. I haven't been to Casa Lever in forever unfortunately. This Madison Ave location is top notch, in every respect. West Village is great too. Milano is superb. This is just a great brand. The food is better here in the US, surprisingly but you just can't go wrong with St. Ambroeus . My only criticism is that they don't open early enough in the morning because they have the best coffee blend in NYC! Perhaps another criticism is that my omelette this morning was massive. They were being very generous today.... Did I eat it all? Yes, it would be a crime to leave a morsel uneaten. I wish there were more St. Ambroeus restaurants in the world
I ordered ossobuco and the fresh artichoke salad with arugula and cheese. The ossobuco was big with a big bone marrow! It also had gramolata on top of the bone marrow. I had to ask for a bone marrow spoon to scoop it out. The risotto that paired it was just enough and the sauce was excellent. Better than my making it at home. I thought I would bring home left over. I was wrong. I ate it all up! On my way out I bought my favorite cookies. I love the one that's like light chocolate meringue (but it is not) with hazelnuts.
We got the Sant Ambroeus chocolate cake and flourless chocolate cake. They both were excellent and very rich and chocolate. The service is excellent and ambience is very clean and orderly. This is one of my favorite coffee and dessert shops in New York City, I will come back again.
This is one of the restaurants that could be considered overhyped since it's always busy! But depending on the time of day you come, your experience will be amazing! I went for both lunch and dinner, and definitely had a better service/time at dinner since it was less crowded (which is why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5) - but overall, this is a solid place. It's definitely a 'see and be seen' restaurant -- you'll get to see all types of people, dressed super chic, very UES vibes. I definitely recommend coming at dinner. It's less crowded and service is much better. Perfect place for a last minute date night or a catch-up dinner with friends or family. The food was obviously delicious. But the service when I came for dinner was IMPECCABLE! The waiters were super attentive, answered all questions we had and were very knowledgeable about any substitutions. We really wanted a dessert but were hesitant between the GF chocolate cake or cookie -- we landed on the cake, but we ended up getting the cookie for free as well! We honestly had such a great time. Melanzane ~~ DELICIOUS! One of my favorites probably. A must order. Burrata & Prosciutto ~~ The burrata was gooey and delicious and well seasoned with just the right amount of olive oil, salt and pepper. The prosciutto was super fresh and very flavorful. Love that dish. Saffron Risotto ~~ Honestly expected more, probably won't reorder again. But it was good. Flourless Chocolate Cake ~~ I did not expect to like this as much as I did. The vanilla ice cream and raspberries were the perfect complement to the dark chocolate. Loved it. Flourless Chocolate Cookie ~~ This tasted like a brownie, but felt like a cookie. What could be better?? This rose to my fave dessert for the evening (although my date preferred the chocolate cake). Delicious.
To cut a long story short, we fell in love with Spaghetti Aglio, Olio e Peperoncino. The olive oil was distinctly infused with garlic flavor that permeated into every strand of spaghetti- then there was just the right savory of saltiness. Every forkful was a moment of bliss. I was grateful to have a daughter who was just as happy to share her dish, and equally eager to try mine. I got the Lasagna Verde. It was bountiful and fulfilling, but that Spaghetti Aglio was on a different level. To finish off, the Millefoglie was a good choice. The cream was divine, but the layers of puff pastry was a bit tricky to tackle. But still, so scrumptious! Lastly, applause to such well trained wait staff. From the maitre d, to our main server and the back waiter. Just like the vibe of Sant Ambroeus, they seemed to carry a subtle whiff of elegance.
Ordered their cacio e pepe and it was delicious! The servers were kind and the overall atmosphere inside was beautiful. I would recommend visiting if you're in the UES looking for an Italian spot
10/10 for the coffee, the formal dining area is worth it but very pricey. I got the 2 sandwiches split into four among all family members but it was quite bland (salad was good though). Coffee and complimentary birthday cookie were the stars of the show. Service was also amazing as they accommodated my budget needs. Theyre very good at business. Great place to deliver a fancy vibe for a birthday. Will come again!
I didn't get a chance to take photos of the food from all the excitement, but I am really happy that we went here after my fiancé proposed to me. The service could have been better, for such a high end restaurant, he looked like he was bothered the whole time and acted like we were peasants. But I didn't let someone potentially having a bad day bother me or ruin my day! Food was delicious, really pricey (even a little overpriced), but the quality was really up there so it was worth it. I am definitely looking forward to coming back here on my next trip!
